چکیده

We present a method to address the challenging problem of segmentation of multi-modality isointense infant brain MR images into white matter (WM), gray matter (GM), and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Our method is based on contextguided, multi-stream fully convolutional networks (FCN), which after training, can directly map a whole volumetric data to its volume-wise labels. In order to alleviate the potential gradient vanishing problem during training, we designed multi-scale deep supervision. Furthermore, context information was used to further improve the performance of our method. Validated on the test data of the MICCAI 2017 Grand Challenge on 6-month infant brain MRI segmentation (iSeg-2017), our method achieved an average Dice Overlap Coefficient of 95.4%, 91.6% and 89.6% for CSF, GM and WM, respectively.

An Automated MR Image Segmentation System Using Multi-layer Perceptron Neural Network

Background: Brain tissue segmentation for delineation of 3D anatomical structures from magnetic resonance (MR) images can be used for neuro-degenerative disorders, characterizing morphological differences between subjects based on volumetric analysis of gray matter (GM), white matter (WM) and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), but only if the obtained segmentation results are correct. Due to image arti...

Integration of sparse multi-modality representation and anatomical constraint for isointense infant brain MR image segmentation

Segmentation of infant brain MR images is challenging due to poor spatial resolution, severe partial volume effect, and the ongoing maturation and myelination processes. During the first year of life, the brain image contrast between white and gray matters undergoes dramatic changes. In particular, the image contrast inverses around 6-8months of age, where the white and gray matter tissues are ...

Integration of Sparse Multi-modality Representation and Geometrical Constraint for Isointense Infant Brain Segmentation

Segmentation of infant brain MR images is challenging due to insufficient image quality, severe partial volume effect, and ongoing maturation and myelination process. During the first year of life, the signal contrast between white matter (WM) and gray matter (GM) in MR images undergoes inverse changes. In particular, the inversion of WM/GM signal contrast appears around 6-8 months of age, wher...

Segmentation d’IRM de cerveaux de nouveau-nés en quelques secondes à l’aide d’un réseau de neurones convolutif pseudo-3D et de transfert d’apprentissage

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is widely used to assess brain development in neonates and to diagnose a wide range of neurological diseases. Such studies often require a quantitative analysis of different brain tissues, so it is essential to be able to classify them accurately. In this paper, we propose a fast automatic method that segments 3D brain MR images into different tissues using full...
